WNRCD Workshop on July 21 at 10 am: Sonoran Desert Tortoise Best Management Practices

Ranchers!

The US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is planning to revisit the listing decision for the Sonoran Desert tortoise.

What can we do?

The Winkelman NRCD, and the Arizona Association of Conservation Districts worked with federal and state agencies several years ago to come up with Best Management Practices for Grazing in Sonoran Desert tortoise habitat. Nearly 3/4 of Arizona is in that habitat.

On July 21st the Winkelman District will conduct a training session on those Best management Practices to certify area ranchers and satisfy one of the agreements we made with FWS. By doing this, we will, in effect keep grazing from being considered a threat to the tortoise if it is subsequently listed.

Do your part! Attend the training! Take four hours from one day and help you and your industry!

See you at the General Kearny Inn in Kearny on July 21st from 10:00 to 2:00. Lunch will be provided.

RSVP to the Clerk’s email so we’ll know how many to expect for lunch.
